POTD: Prequel

POTD: PrequelPrequel Bozeman, Montana 2014

This shot was taken during a storm five or six days ago. We got six or eight inches of snow total from the storm. Then it warmed up to the low 50s for a few days and almost all the snow disappeared. Today the temperature dropped back down almost 50 degrees and it’s snowing like crazy again, so this snowy lane is again snowy.

In spite of how it might look, I actually took this photo at about 11 p.m. The lighting, brightened only a little in Photoshop, was courtesy of the city lights reflecting off the clouds and the ground. (This was on an urban golf course.)

POTD: On a Winter's Day #1

  FJ1839    On a Winter’s Day #1 Bozeman, Montana 2014

All the leaves may be brown and the sky (often) gray, but that doesn’t mean I have to restrict myself to that particular color palette when I take my camera for a walk if I don’t feel like it. In case you’ve managed somehow to have never heard the song that inspired the title for this photo (it’s #89 on Rolling Stones list of the 500 greatest songs of all time), here it is along with some appropriate graphics. I think it has held up well over the last 49+ years since it’s release (the fashions of the day being a different story entirely). I dedicate this song to all those folks in Buffalo, N.Y., and their east coast neighbors who I hear may have a bit of a challenge getting over the river and through the woods this Thanksgiving. (Thanksgiving isn’t looking particularly roadworthy around here either.) ]]>

POTD: Nighttime Upgrade

POTD: Nightime UpgradeNighttime Upgrade Bozeman, Montana 2014

The Western Cafe is, I believe, by far the oldest continually operating cafe in Bozeman, certainly going back way more than the thirty-two years we’ve lived here. Here it looks like they’re getting a new storm door installed after hours. In spite of occasional upgrades like this, it still looks pretty much like I remember it looking in 1982. The barber shop next door has probably been here that long too, but I’ve not been a customer there like I have at the Western so I’m not certain about that.
