The Burghers of Snowville Bozeman, Montana 2014
Recently someone emailed me about my crow image The Burghers of Bozeman in my Opus Corvus exhibition currently at the Holter Museum of Art, which lead to a discussion of the famous Rodin sculpture The Burghers of Calais that inspired the name (see below). So it wasn’t surprising that when walking later that same day, I saw a distinct similarity in the arrangement of these snowmen. The story of the burghers of Calais that led to the Rodin sculpture is quit interesting and heroic. Read about it here. The Burghers of Calais Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden Washington, DC (from Wikipedia)

That is quite a remarkable resemblance. Do you think the snowman builder had that in mind? 🙂
Judy, I think Mr. Sun had a lot to do with creating this particular variation on Rodin’s sculpture.
This is a wonderful post, Larry! I love how you have illustrated the synergy between other art forms & your photography. Who would think that there would be a link between bronze sculpture, photography & snow “sculpture”! 🙂 And thanks for the links to the crow burghers! I hadn’t remembered that photo and love how the title adds to the image.
Thanks Kathy. Perhaps it’s my statistics training that helps me to see the connection or patterns in different kinds of artistic “data.” Who said science and art are two ends of the intellectual spectrum!
