The “Shelter From the Storm” title doesn’t fit this image nearly as well as it did the previous image of the same title from January 9th (here). I just called it that because it is the same raven as before. Personally, while this one has merit, I like the earlier image better.

  1. I agree with you on all points here. I think the warm color of the background (is it adobe?) does not go well with the iridescent blue-black of the bird. Maybe try shifting the hue to something more “cloudy” feeling and see if that helps. Of course, the trees help with the “shelter” part of the title in the first image.

    1. Kathy, my biggest issue with the image is that it doesn’t seem to tell a story, or at least one I can decipher. I doubt that shifting colors etc. would do much for that. A tree or something certainly might.

  2. I agree that the image seems like just the bird against a backdrop without the presence of a 2nd element to create a relationship. If the picture is not telling the story of shelter from the storm, maybe the title needs to be different. When I look at the bird’s posture/wing position, I feel the effort of lifting the wings against the air, so maybe the idea of “take off” or “landing” might lead to a different story…..

    1. Kathy, the more I look at it the more I think the most appropriate title would be “nice try but not a keeper.” 🙂 Certainly if the title of an images is the most essential component of making it worthwhile, then the photographer kind of missed the mark.
