POTD: Hummer #4

Hummer #4
Oro Valley, Arizona
2023

I put this image in this collection mainly to show that it is in fact possible to photograph hummingbirds “in the wild” rather than at a feeder. Granted, they’re typically further away–this one was in a tree about 30′ away–so it takes a long telephoto plus a generous amount of cropping to get it done. But it’s doable, thanks in larger part to the current availability of some really good camera sensors as well as software for processing.

    1. Thanks Steve. I have to say I’m a bit surprised, pleased but surprised, that these hummingbird photos have received so many comments, relative to relative to average for my posts anyway. (Noting compared to the number of comments so called “influencers” receive on social media.) Alas, this was the last of my planned hummingbird posts. I have lots and lots more photos of hummingbirds but at a rate of 15 frames per second, you can imagine how redundant they are.
