The Geography of Survival #19 (That’ll Do Pig)
Bozeman, Montana
2017
I have walked by this tree literally hundreds of times on my almost daily walk over the years and yesterday was the first time I ever noticed this laughing pig by the side of the road.
It’s strange that I can walk by something that has been there for probably ever and never notice the photographic potentials. At other times I walk by something that I have photographed before and try to find the composition and It just doesn’t seem to be there.
“Be still with yourself until the object of your attention affirms your presence.” – Minor White
You were in a receptive mind.
Pattern, symmetry, texture, light, color (or tonality in the case of black and white) and other elements of a scene are all things the photographic pundits will tell are important elements of making a good photograph. The state of the photographer’s mind is much less often mentioned but perhaps the most crucial element of success in image making.
It looks like “Alf”!
Yeah, I can see Alf in there too.
