This is one of my all-time favorite songs as well! I still like Van’s version the best, but it gave me chills both times when I saw Marc Cohn play it live in 1993 and 2010. Here’s a recent version with some decent video and sound quality:

I spent 4 hours on the beach at Pt. Reyes in December with my cousin, and your current series is making me definitely want to return (with camera) in the near future for a a longer period of time.
Michael, it’s interesting that you should mention Marc Cohn. We were listening to him on NPR a couple of weeks ago playing cover songs from his Listening Booth CD. Both Connie and I liked the way he took other folks songs and added something special of his own to each of them.
