POTD: City of Gold

City of Gold
Lincoln, Montana
2018

This is part of a larger three-part sculpture piece by Denmark artist Jorn Ronnau at the Blackfoot Pathways Sculpture in the Wild International Sculpture Park. The park is an interesting stop, something that will likely someday eclipse Lincoln’s other claim to fame–the former residence of the infamous Unibomber Ted Kaczynski.

The Sun Magazine publication

An image of mine taken on the Oregon coast some years ago appears in the current issue of The Sun magazine as the intro photo for an article titled “The Feminist Club. This is one of my favorite images of people in my collection. Although I like the black and white image a lot, I like the color version shown below better. I call this image The Undiscovered Country.

POTD: Thoughts and Prayers (Empty Gestures)

Thoughts and Prayers (Empty Gestures)
Bozeman, Montana
2018

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families of today’s horrible and murderous attack…”

–Donald Trump

I actually started working on this image in reaction to the response by politicians and others to the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida in February. That shooting was no longer front-page news by the time I finished it so I held off posting it until the inevitable next mass shooting at a school, which of course occurred yesterday at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas.

Note the faded yellow ribbon tatoo on the back of the hand on the left; it’s hard to read at this scale but it says “empty gestures.”
