I remember when I could look under the hood of a car and actually see components and parts I understood and could work on or replace if necessary. Now I open the hood of my car and am lucky if I can find the oil dipstick or the windshield wiper fluid reservoir. It really makes me appreciate the simplicity of an old threshing machine where everything seems to be simple and out in the open where it can be easily inspected and worked on.]]>

Small Bounty Bozeman, Montana 2012

They’re forecasting a high of 35 degrees for tomorrow along with mixed snow and rain, so Connie finished harvesting her small, 4’x8′ garden. This is what she got from the one row of carrots she planted (minus some we already harvested and ate.) Along with the carrots she got a couple gallons of beans, a big bowl of peas (would have had buckets of them except the marmots decided they liked pea plants–pods, leaves, stems, and all), bunches of lettuce, a pile of green onions, and a couple of small beets. Not bad for a 32 square foot garden.]]>

I used to think backscratchers were a curious novelty. Now I have several strategically placed around the house–must be a result of spending so many years in an arid climate. If I had a neck and a beak like a pelican though I wouldn’t have the need. What a reach they have.]]>
