These towers are part of the remnants of an industrial complex in Beijing that has been re-purposed into the 798 Art District, a community of art galleries, studios, and artists’ residences. Whether or not these are actually exhaust stacks from a power plant I don’t know, but I chose to think of them that way as it makes this image title quite appropriate.

If I told you this was a photo of fog in the mountains, you might say “how beautiful.” If I told you the truth, that it is smog, you’d likely have a much more negative reaction. Context is everything.

It’s hard not to post a series of photos of the Great Wall without invoking Dylan’s song, and of course Jimi’s cover of it. As nasty as the smog was, it sure gave a deep, mysteriously impenetrable look to the far range of mountains.
