Another driftwood structure. It was not clear how to enter this one but there were some nice stumps to sit on once inside.

Hmmm. A Wikiup structure. Celebrated by Forest Service archeologists and dreaded by foresters and engineers. Finding one in your harvest unit or along a proposed road location brought on the debate, is it 50 years old or not? If determined to be 50 years or older, does it have historic or cultural significance? The question was never truly answered but lots of time and expense was spent in that pursuit. Usually it became a bargaining chip in the politics of forest management and mitigating perceived impacts brought on by the human presence and changing the landscape.
Well, since this tipi is below the high water line of the reservoir with nothing but a few scraggly cottonwoods in the near vicinity means it certainly wouldn’t hinder any timber sales. As I mentioned to those f.s. ladies we met last month, us being 50 years old or older makes us potentially of valuable historic significance when we’re out and about in the forest. But establishing that we are of cultural significance might be a high bar to get over. (I could make some wilderness advocate type counter arguments to your statements about these issues but I believe I will defer that discussion.)
