POTD: Fragment of Youth

Fragment of Youth

I really like this elegant sculpture of a young man that actually seems enhanced and not ruined by the fact that it is missing its top half. Thus I’m embarrassed to say that the title that first came to mind for this image was “half-faced”; you know, as in not two-faced or shi*-faced but half-faced. Sometimes even when it seems like my mind wants to be operating in tune with a more sophisticated aesthetic, it seems to get derailed by my decidedly unsophisticated juvenile sense of humor.

I don’t know if this is supposed to depict the moon (likely not) or what the entire carved panel in the Egyptian exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art actually looks like. POTD: Hard Times

Hard Times

My first thought on seeing this woman begging on the street was that Lisbeth Salander had fallen on hard times. Lisbeth or not, if the meager collection of pennies and nickels in her beggar’s cup was any indication, she was definitely seeing some hard times. My contribution probably didn’t improve her situation appreciably but it somewhat assuaged my guilt for taking photographic advantage of her plight.

POTD: Second Story Man

Second Story Man
New York, New York

I caught this guy climbing around on the 2nd floor balconies of the New York Stock Exchange. In spite of what it might appear to be, he was actually a workman helping to take down a banner, so he wasn’t really up to anything nefarious–other than some severe OSHA violations.
