I took a photograph of this same tree several years ago (see Drifting #2 here). I remembered having photographed it but did so again, partly just to see if my view or treatment of it had changed since the last time. Not a lot of difference between the two, but I have to say I like the older one better. What do you think?]]>

A companion piece to the one from yesterday, I guess you could call yesterday’s the big island photo and this is the small island photo–at least the rocks in each photo are islands at certain tide levels. I’m not sure which of the two photos I like best; yesterday’s has the most interesting compositional arrangement but I really like the minimalist red “statement” this one makes.]]>

POTD: Hobbit Beach #2

Yesterday I referred to the rainy weather at Hobbit Beach as being pleasant. To a large degree that was because I was wearing a warm jacket topped by a raincoat, along with a fleece hat, gloves, and waterproof boots. Had I been dressed like these two, barefoot in t-shirts and shorts, I might have had a different opinion of the weather. It was after all, quite wet and not quite 50 degrees. They seemed to be having a great time though; I guess I’m just getting old.]]>

POTD: Hobbit Beach #1

Hobbit Beach #1 Hobbit Beach, Oregon 2013

A dark and rainy day on the Oregon Coast earlier this week. Probably only someone from an arid climate like we have in southwest Montana can call such a day a pleasant experience. That fact that it’s turned quite cold since we’ve been back (ten below zero here right now) makes a wet day on the beach seem even more appealing.
