POTD: Just Not Into You #3

While the photos from the last two days seemed to at least suggest mutual feelings of aversion, this one is more one sided. The goose is definitely into the woman (or at least her sandwich), but the woman’s definitely not into the goose.]]>

Lot’s of apparent negativity in this photo, although as with yesterday’s photo I believe the couple really was into each other. Based on the way they were behaving both before and after the photo was taken, I’d say they were just caught with misleading looks on their faces that didn’t really have the implications they seem to. While (undoctored) photos technically don’t lie, this is another example of how they can certainly mislead.]]>

I’m sure it’s just a coincidence but you have to wonder what strange, mysterious connection there is between the Saint-Sulpice Catholic church and the robot C3PO from Star Wars. Or, maybe I’ve been too influenced by all the Saint-Sulpice myths generated by the novel The Da Vinci Code.

This is a self-portrait and I have no idea what I could have been carrying that made it look like I was a sailor getting ready to ship out, or maybe just a hobo hauling a big bag of belongings over my shoulder.]]>

A comment by reader Kathy Eyster about the posts from the last two days being good candidates for a diptych got me thinking about pairing this photo with another one by the same name that I posted here last year. It’s a completely different context for comparison, tied together mainly I guess by the name that seemed to fit in both cases. But who said the pairing of images for diptychs had to be so visually obvious.]]>

POTD: Wood Product Pile

I took this photo and yesterday’s on the same walk through town. I thought the similarities between the two were interesting; one a layered stack of wood and one a layered stack of a wood product. The cedar boards of course were much more neatly arranged than the boxes crushed and bundled for recycling. It’s also the case that the layers of boxes were actually oriented vertically. I just rotated the photo to make it more consistent with the structure of the cedar boards.]]>

POTD: Another Day, Another Peak

POTD: Another Day, Another PeakAnother Day, Another Peak Bozeman, Montana 2013

I don’t usually do two major hikes close together but opportunity and poor planning resulted in just that this week. Tuesday I climbed Ross Peak, the mountain in the background with the brightly lit rock face in the center of this photo. This photo, from yesterday, is of me on top of Sacajawea Peak, the highest point in the Bridger mountain range (9,665′). The plan was to follow the ridge in the background (except we would circle around Ross Peak) for 20 miles or so and end up just outside of Bozeman. We cut it short however after about 11 miles, hiking down at the Bridger Bowl Ski area in mid-afternoon. Good thing we did as an hour or so later a major thunderstorm moved through the area with torrential rains and many lightning strikes–not the best time to be on an exposed ridge above 8,000′. Below is a photo of one of my hiking partners for the day. Mountain Goat]]>

Given the heat wave that has engulfed us much has it has the rest of the West, our days of seeing this kind of juicy moisture on plants on a regular basis are gone for awhile it seems. It was nice while it lasted.]]>
