Not the most unique photo of a sandhill crane but one I was excited to take as, even though we’ve seen them in the general area, it was the first time in 40 years that we’d actually seen one in our yard at our mountain house. There were actually two; the other was out of the camera view. This photo was taken back in May, but we’ve seen them again since. There’s no indication that they nested near us but likely they did somewhere in the area.

I was struck by the similarity in shape of these fungi to cumulonimbus storm clouds such those in yesterday’s post.

One more look at our recent bout of evening storms. They seem to have stopped occurring, having been replaced by smoke from all the fires they started around the area.

I was set up to take photos of the full moon rising, but this was all we saw of the full moon that night. It was very much upstaged by another sunset storm with amazing and unusual colors. (Again, I tried to make the photo look as much like what I saw as I could.)
