I was just fooling around with my new camera (a Sony RX100 if that is of interest to you) the other day when, to test it’s close-up capabilities, I  pointed it at this newspaper on the table because it was the closest thing to me. It was supposed to be a throw away shot but I kind of like it. Not much is in focus (part of the photo’s appeal), but that’s because I was also testing how the wide f1.8 lens opening affected depth of field at that distance.]]>

Boy was I surprised when I was alerted by my cousin to take a look at the Yellowstone Art Museum web page for their annual art auction this year–that’s Zippy and the Fashion Queen at last year’s auction in the photo. The above is a screen shot of their web page; the actual web page link is here, although it may have changed by the time this is posted as the auction was tonight. We were at the auction tonight too. Interesting I ended up wearing the same shirt and jacket as last year–perhaps my wardrobe is a bit limited?]]>

Three Bamboos Birmingham, Alabama 2013

They have a nice bamboo grove/forest/stand at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. I heard later though that bamboo, or at least golden bamboo, is an invasive species in Alabama. Really? It seems such a benign plant compared to the mother of all invasive plant species in the south–kudzu. Of course I was also surprised by the fact that the plural of bamboo is bamboos. I thought I was being bamboozled until I looked it up in the dictionary.
