    1. Thanks Kathy. I am a bit disappointed about how this image looks on the blog compared to in Lightroom or Photoshop where it showed a much more gradual taper to the darkness below the moon, thus showing more of the tree trunks than the blog post does. Perhaps that is due to how WordPress handles images or maybe is due to the way Lightroom exports 16 bit psd files to 8 bit jpgs. Something I should look into I guess although it’s rarely and issue except for these kinds of extreme exposure images.

      1. I’m guessing the sharper fall-off is a combination of conversion to 8-bit JPEG compression & the limits of many web browsers. I’m glad you are happier with the LR/PS version you can see. Happy Holidays!

      2. Now that I think about I believe the source of the problem is the 8 bit conversion as I can look at the 16 bit and 8 bit images on the same computer monitor before even posting it on my blog and see the difference. With only 256 shades of gray available I think the darker, subtle gradations in tone in the image are simply compressed to the pure black value and a couple of steps above that. Happy Holidays to you too!
