POTD: A Sneak Attack
A Sneak Attack
Tucson Mountain Park, Arizona
2022
Even a tree located a seemingly safe distance from the edge of a wash can be undermined by flood waters, in this case in the very literal sense of the word.

Bare Tree #81
Bare Tree #81
Tucson Mountain Park, Arizona
2021
A tree growing on the edge of a wash has a big advantage in terms of access to water during the rainy season. It suffers from a disadvantage as well, that of having its position literally undermined by repeated flash floods. Hold on tight!
Show Me the Way to Go Home

A clever use of vernacular materials to mark the trail across a wash in the desert.
Spent Beauty #52
Tucson Mountain Park, Arizona
2022
I’ve seen a lot of saguaro skeletons over the years but never one that had these dangling tendrils. It looks as if it had actual blood vessels stripped out of its arm.
Spent Beauty #51
Tucson Mountan Park, Arizona
2022
The skeletal structure of a decaying prickly pear cactus pad.
Latent Potential #27
Santa Rita Mountains, Arizona
2021
Seed pods from an agave plant (a.k.a. century plant). The latent potential of these seed pods has actually expired, as the seeds have already left for new homes.
Wolf Moon
Tubac, Arizona
2022
Last week’s full moon, the first full moon of 2022. It is called the Wolf Moon. I decided to photograph it as I knew we could see it rising over the Santa Rita mountains from our patio. Wouldn’t you know it, the day was partly cloudy with increasing clouds in the east just as it was about time for the moonrise. But there was a small window of almost clear sky just above the edge of the mountains where the moon came up. I was never able to capture the entire moon in a shot, since as it was clearing the mountains it was simultaneously disappearing behind dark clouds just above. (Note the two wisps of clouds on either side of the upper edge of the moon.) But that’s o.k. as this provided a nicely moody shot.
I Need to Go to My Happy Place
Green Valley, Arizona
2022
This is the vehicle I parked behind by chance while waiting for the Fashion Queen at the grocery store. I could feel my blood pressure rise by the minute while waiting. Where’s my happy place? By comparison, pretty much anywhere but here! YMMV.

We are nicely settled into our casita home here in Tubac until March. New digs means new opportunities for in-house photo opportunities!
