POTD: Snow Sculpture

Snow Sculpture
Bozeman, Montana
2017

This shot of snow on a chair on our deck was from late last winter. It’s particularly appealing right now because snow is what we need to put out all the fires burning in Montana and the rest of the West. The effects of the fires are not as dramatic as what’s going on with the hurricanes but it’s still devastating. There are no large fires close to Bozeman at this time, although you wouldn’t know that just judging from all the smoke in the air.

POTD: Red Sky at Morning

The ancient mariners rhyme, “red sky at night, sailors delight; red sky at morning, sailors take warning” doesn’t really apply in landlocked Montana during fire season. We’ve been having red skies both in the morning an evening courtesy of the forest fires in the region. Other than the pretty colors there’s nothing to recommend them.

POTD: Band Night

Band Night
Bozeman, Montana
2016

This shot is from a reggae concert we went to last year. It pretty much convinced me I’m too old for concerts these days (of that kind anyway); it was WAY TOO LOUD, went past my bedtime, and there was no place to sit so we had to stand up the whole time!

POTD: Pepper Variations

Pepper Variations

One of Edward Weston’s most famous photographs, Pepper No. 30 (shown below) is one of my favorites. My shot of the strange insides of a green pepper is a modern, mutated, tongue-in-cheek tribute to Weston’s iconic image. Perhaps that I took this shortly after the total eclipse may have something to do with its weird configuration!

POTD: Eclipse Colors

Eclipse Colors
Idaho Falls, Idaho
2017

This slightly over-exposed image of the diamond ring at the end of totality shows a large starburst pattern as well as some nice colorful effects due to lens flare. Normally I would consider these to be defects in the image but in this case I think they are darn purty!
