It’s surprising how well a wet river otter blends in with the texture of a dead tree. There were actually seven otters swimming along the lake shore and climbing in and out of the water, playing but also looking for and eating food. We were about 20 feet from them and followed them for quite a way along the shore. They paid us no mind at all. It’s surprisingly hard to photograph moving otters from a moving canoe, so I didn’t get any good group shots.
