This cottonwood tree on one of my daily walking routes never fails to draw my attention. I’m not sure why it does so, and I’m not sure that it’s new winter coat or this image of it provides any real clues to the attraction either. It’s a nice tree, but why does it stand out more than any of the other similar trees I pass by?]]>

Because it leans and branches out so close to its base? There are cottonwoods in SE Michigan, but they all seem to be pretty straight, and the branches are higher from the ground. BWDIK about trees?
Shapewise, this cottonwood tree might stand out in Michigan, but it’s really pretty typical of those around here.
Maybe because it appears to be in the middle of the trail. A visual if not real barrier.
It was actually off to the side of the trail, and actually off on a side trail about 20′ from the trail I was on. It’s a mystery.
