POTD: Survival of the Fittest #1

Survival of the Fittest #1 Bozeman, Montana 2012

Single digit winter days are when fortunes are made or lost in the corvid commodity market; the commodity in this case being bits of food left over from tailgate parties at the Montana State University football stadium. And the fortune made or lost? That’s the ability to stay alive (or not) during the cold winter nights.]]>

  1. This is a great addition to your corvus collection. The shortened depth of field allows the sharp focus of the fighting pair showing the striking pattern of dark edges on the white wing feathers. Another good feature of this photo is the evidence that you are out trudging in the snow taking photos again. Hope you are continuing to do well.

    1. Thanks Betty. I’ve been wanting to add some magpies to my corvid collection and this one is a good start I think. However, I hate to disabuse you of the idea of my struggling so hard for my photography (i.e., trudging in the snow), but in this case I was sitting in a warm car with the window down and the heater on (as well as the heated seats). I guess I could teach those corvids a thing or two about surviving the winters around here.
