Someone Reading a Book Budapest, Hungary 2011
Originally I took this photo thinking it would be a great addition to my Girl Reading a Book series. Now, after brightening up the image on the computer, I’m thinking it’s a guy rather than a woman. It was so dark on the street I couldn’t really tell when I took the photo. Whatever their gender I give the person credit for being able to read in such dim light–and for doing something constructive while panhandling rather than just sit there and stare at nothing like a lot of them do. (I’m just assuming here that the subject matter of whatever he/she is reading could be construed as constructive on some level.)]]>POTD: Someone Reading a Book Read More »
Beyond the Veil #7 Budapest, Hungary 2011
This particular partially veiled person isn’t so mysterious to me, or maybe she is.

So I’m wondering, does it make sense to expand this series to include photos that show much obscured faces? I think they can be seen as fitting together, although it makes me less happy about the choice of series title.

I had passed this same woman in this booth near our apartment several nights in a row before I happened to pass at just the right distance that when I glanced over, she became a candidate for this series of images. ]]>POTD: Beyond the Veil #3 Read More »

Beyond the Veil #2 Budapest, Hungary 2011
This young lady on the tram we were riding probably didn’t even realize she qualified as being veiled. (Nor did she realize some American tourist would even find that interesting.)]]>POTD: Beyond the Veil #2 Read More »
Beyond the Veil #1 Budapest, Hungary 2011
It’s amazing what little it takes sometimes to spawn a series of photographs on a particular theme. This shot was among some I took at a flea market in Budapest. The boy’s face being partly hidden by the box when he turned his head unexpectedly was an unintended part of the composition. When I was reviewing the photos at the end of the day, I noticed there was also a second photo with a face that had been partially concealed by accident. In the days after that, I caught myself noticing all sorts of scenes with partially hidden faces and a series was born. I eventually expanded it to include photos of partially obscured people in general (not just faces).]]>POTD: Beyond the Veil #1 Read More »
