This was the last photo I took of this bison herd. I wasn’t necessarily done taking photos but this bull seemed to think I should be. To enforce his decision on that he “escorted” me back to the van. Keeping a safe distance from a bison who’s walking in your direction sometimes requires a faster than normal walking pace.

There was an interesting interaction going on between these two ravens. The one in the foreground appeared to be trying to hide some food, as ravens often do. And the other raven–also as ravens often do–was trying to get close enough to see what was being hidden, perhaps to determine whether or not it was worth coming back later to steal. But in this case the first raven was actually just playing with a rock, maybe in an attempt to fool the other one.

This is technically a POTD rerun of sorts as I recall photographing this rock stuck in the roots of a tree a number of years ago and posting it on this blog. If I could easily put my hands on that post it would make an interesting comparison, both in the image composition as well as the title I chose for it. But alas my indexing of posts is quite poor so I doubt I could find it easily.
