Sail Away Paris, France 2013

On weekends this pool, the Grand Basin,  in the Luxembourg Gardens is full of toy sailboats rented to kids. The boats are not radio controlled; they are propelled by the breeze and steered by long poles that are issued with the boats. But there are also some adults with more adult sized toy boats who are into the sport as well. These guys took advantage of a considerably less busy weekday to get in some quality sailing time.]]>

Artist at Work Paris, France 2013

An artist at work in his studio in Montmartre. His studio is near Place du Tertre and from the look of the kinds of work he was painting he may well have been one of the artists who sell their work to tourists on the Place. It seemed like he had good technique but no soul originality in his work (says Zippy the art critic).

I thought I was really learning to read some French when my mind automatically translated this title as “The Old Book.” Then I realized it was Spanish, which I do know a bit of, not French. Whatever the language, given the cover illustration, I guess an alternate title would be “You Are What You Read.”

Amélie Paris, France 2013

A shot from Cafe les Deux Moulins in Montmartre which has gained a fair share of notoriety since the movie Amélie was filmed there in 2001. If she cut her hair short, the waitress at the counter could pass for the actress Audrey Tautou who played the starring role in the movie.]]>

Tertre Artist Paris, France 2013

There are a lot of artists working every day at the extremely popular Place du Tertre in Montmartre mainly producing prodigious amounts of tourist schlock. They look very serious about their craft though; perhaps that’s just to impress the tourists. It would be interesting to follow them home to their studios there to see what they produce when they’re working just to please themselves.  ]]>
