POTD: Train Ride to Crazy Town

Train Ride to Crazy Town
Chloride, Arizona
2025

When I was in the hospital at the Mayo Clinic for six months, about half that time I was delirious and often suffered very realistic hallucinations. Or  in short I called it spending time in Crazy Town. Some of the scenes I experienced seemed like normal situations until I thought about them more and they became anything but normal. This photo is a benign example–it looks like an old gas station (and likely was) but the gas pumps are for three different brands of gasoline. And of course there’s the railroad running so close to the pumps you’d be hard pressed to drive a car on the front side of the pumps. Knowing that Chloride, Arizona contains a lot of odd collections of antiques makes this scene seem understandable and not particularly weird to me. That was not the same for some of my adventures in Crazy Town. One instance of my delusional state even involved being on a railroad of sorts and that train ride was not benign or pleasant at all. My advice: stay away from Crazy Time.

  1. Stay away from Crazy Time is good advice. The on-line gambling game has the strategy that you can figure out how the game works and then win. Wrong! Sucker. Chloride sure seems like a Crazy Town. Sounds like your delusional train ride was on the Marrakesh Express. I didn’t keep up with Rock much after the 70’s. I recently “discovered” Ozzy Osbourne’s Crazy Train. I enjoyed listening to the melody and not bothering (or able) to hear the lyrics. I looked them up after reading your post and found he described the world pretty well with his lyrics for Crazy Train. RIP Ozzy.

    1. My delusional train ride was definitely not on the Marrakesh Express. The CS&N song has a happy feel to it. My train ride was anything but happy. And as for Ozzy Osbourne, I never listed to him back in the day and will not likely be doing that now. However, I never liked opera back in the day, but enjoy it in small doses the past decade or two so you never know.

  2. That’s definitely a crazy gas station!

I’m glad you’re back from Crazy Town! It doesn’t sound like a fun place.

    1. Crazy Town was in fact not a fun place at all. The name itself can be a bit misleading, at least if you allow for there to be bad crazy and fun crazy. My Crazy Town was definitely of the bad variety.

    1. Nope, not fun at all. As I said in a previous comment response, there’s good crazy (hypothetically anyway) and then there is bad crazy which I became far too acquainted with.
