Shelter From the Storm

2024
One morning during a rainstorm this little bird smacked into to the glass on our patio door and knocked itself out, if not dead altogether. I picked it up and brought it into the house to see if I could revive it somehow. Once I got in the house I realized that was a bad place to bring it because of our cathedral ceilings–if it did revive and decide to fly off, we’d have a really hard time corralling it or steering it outside, so I carried it out to our mudroom on the other side of the house and set it down there. I was going to go find a little box and some bedding for it but before I got a few steps away it jumped up and flew around, landing where you see it in this photo. I opened the door and after a little coaxing (and after it left its calling card on the windowsill), it flew off looking no worse for the wear.
I’m glad the bird revived. I also love the photo…the warm colored bird & wood vs the cool rainy outside. Very evocative!
Thanks Kathy. Yes, there is quite a contrast in color temperatures (I guess you would say) between the inside and outside of the house. I kind of wonder if what my eyes were perceiving at the time in terms of color temperature was the same as that of the camera sensor. Maybe, maybe not but I do know I didn’t tweak that component in working with the photo. I took the photo with my cell phone and I’m not as familiar with it’s default image characteristics as I am with my “real” cameras.
At first glance I thought – that bird is in the wrong side of the window – glad for your explanation. It looks like it’s enjoying the view from inside. Guess it was just dazed. Pleasant image.
The bird (a black-headed grosbeak I’m told) does look content sitting there looking out the window doesn’t he.
