Who knew I could add interesting words to my vocabulary just by looking at graffiti.

Ruderal: a species, especially a plant, that colonizes or thrives in disturbed areas (noun); colonizing or thriving in areas that have been disturbed, as by fire or cultivation (adjective). Especially when paired with mayhem, it’s perhaps a metaphorically good term describing what’s to come in to this election season.

POTD: Say What?

I mentioned in a recent post how important placement is in how artwork is interpreted (i.e., context is everything). On a much more simplistic level, placement was important for this wordy mural as well. It’s essentially impossible to read all the words of the message without peeking behind the palm tree, and the tree seemed barely a foot from the wall. Cudos to the artist for how well they were able to paint in that confined space. Honestly though, I couldn’t quite figure out the message it was trying to get across even after seeing all the words. I think it had something to do with undocumented immigrants and their treatment but I’m just not sure.

POTD: Solar Sunflower

I got confused by this piece of artwork. Is it a sunflower? Or, given the moon and planets in the center, is it supposed to be the actual sun. Either way, the moon and planets suggest a face, which could be another theme altogether.
