POTD: Danger Everywhere
Danger Everywhere

It’s a little know fact that urban rock hippos are even more dangerous than their river dwelling relatives in Africa.

I Am Not the Enemy
Bisbee, Arizona
2023
I love the contrast of this very American harsh-looking junk pickup with the trees in the background which, by happenstance, do a good approximation of the feel of a classic Japanese painting such as this one:

Social Media #27
Bisbee, Arizona
2023
The term “social media” is so strongly tied to various forms of digital communication these days that it’s easy to forget that media in a broad sense just refers to any method of conveying information or expressing ideas. In that sense, social media is only recently a digital phenomenon and in fact has existed in other forms for, well, centuries or millennia. I came to this realization some years ago when considering large flat rocks in the southwest covered with myriad, almost overlapping, ancient petroglyphs conveying information or expression of ideas to others that might happen by. Since then I have been occasionally photographing other instances of social media along the continuum of technological sophistication from petroglyphs to twitter tweets, as well as the interesting remnants of those postings. (Yesterday’s POTD would fit into this collection as well, although I chose to name it otherwise.)

Abe #3
Bisbee, Arizona
2023
If you’re into numerology (I’m not) you might find something interesting in the fact that besides the number 3 on the door, there are three door panels below it and two rows of three windows each above it. Perhaps 3 was Abe’s lucky number, not that it seemed to work out for him in the end: he died on 4/15/1865 and with simple arithmetic you’ll notice that 4+15+1865=1884=628/3, and there’s that 3 again. Surely that means something????? (Besides the fact, of course, that I seem to have nothing better to do right now than to make up significance out of nothing.)

Slow Afternoon
Bisbee, Arizona
2023
Still cautions about covid exposure, slow afternoons at eating establishments (such as the one that was part of this bar) are about the only places where the Fashion Queen and I are comfortable dining indoors. The added advantage of the absence of a crowd was that there weren’t any folks getting in the way of photographing the place.

Angularity
Bisbee, Arizona
2023
I took this photo because I was attracted to all the way all the geometric shapes and shadows fit together. I like the way the lamp, although angular in its own right, sort of breaks up the starkness of the image. But I’d rather not have had all the vegetation definitely breaking up the theme. That’s too much I think, but not to the extent the overall impression of the geometry is destroyed.
