POTD: Captain Pike?

Captain Pike?
Exeter, California
2017

Captain Pike was the first thought that came to mind when I saw this. Anyone out there nerdy enough to know to what I’m referring to here?

  1. As soon as I saw the title I knew who you were referring to, but I am not going to tell and spill the beans so soon.

How is the weather in Exeter? We had a good rain last night up north but the rest of the day should be good.

  2. Yes, self-proclaimed nerd responding here. Captain Christopher Pike is from Star Trek. In the original series he was in a really silly looking wheelchair that looks a lot like your picture.

    1. Steve, I’m not surprised you knew the reference, but I’m guess you didn’t pull that SF 1709 off the top of your head. If so, you’re Trekky nerdiness has been well hidden all these years!

    2. Steve, I’m not surprised you knew the reference, but I’m guessing you didn’t pull that SF 1709 detail off the top of your head. If so, you Trrekky nerdiness has been well hidden all these years!

  3. The show always opened with a shot of the enterprise with 1709 prominently displayed. I always watched that show in Jr high! Now if you asked which actor played captain Pike that would require google.

  4. Christopher Pike was Kirk’s predecessor as a starship fleet captain. He was severely injured while rescuing several cadets from a baffle plate rupture on board a J-class training vessel, the delta ray radiation leaving him paralyzed, unable to speak, badly scarred, and using a brainwave-operated wheelchair for mobility. His only means of communicating was through a light on the chair: one flash meaning “yes” and two flashes indicating “no.”.

And you thought I wasn’t paying close attention to your posts! Hope all is well.
