Mid-day is a awful time to try and photograph in a place like Badlands. In general, you really need the morning or evening light to bring out the extreme 3D nature of the terrain. However, even during mid-day, enough shadows can be found to make for interesting shots if you look hard enough. (Getting deep into the gulches, canyons, etc. really helps.)
A long lens to isolate those sections with the strongest shadows also helps! 🙂 Glad you were able to make successful images even in the middle of the day.
Yep, definitely a razor’s edge here… 🙂 That light was really helping you make these images in the Badlands, which can look very drab.
