Feel the Burn

It’s fire season in the west, but we’ve been pretty lucky in southwest Montana until recently. A fire about 30 miles from our house, combined with all those further upwind have filled the skies the last few days. Even inside the house it smells like a campfire at times, and the Bridger Mountains which we can usually see quite clearly in this view from our house are all but invisible in this photo. Temperatures are actually quite mild, yet the presence of the smoke makes the weather feel oppressive. Stunning red sunsets and sunrises don’t quite make up for it. Still we’re thankful that all we have to deal with is the smoke–for now anyway.
I am sorry that you are experiencing the smoke, it can be pretty dreadful, especially for someone who prefers to be outdoors or someone who works outdoors.
With all of the fires we have in Northern California we have been pretty fortunate that the smoke has been only moderately bad.
Alan, I’m surprised you aren’t seeing more smoke. The fires near here are nothing like what California and other places are experiencing right now. Perhaps the breeze is in your favor.
Nice photo…. although I’m sure you would prefer a Photoshopped version of a photo to get that effect, than the real thing.
Definitely. Skies have cleared quite a bit today though. I can actually see the mountains and some blue sky (instead of smoke gray). Who knows which way the wind will blow tomorrow.
