I’ve never photographed nude models, and imagine I’d be pretty uncomfortable doing so, but this worked pretty well. This is actually an extremely life-like sculpture by John DeAndrea that was on display at the Denver Art Museum. Here’s what the whole thing looked like:

A security guard at the Denver Art Museum looking  from the top of the vertiginous stairway view. One might suppose he’s hanging on due to the disorientation, but it’s actually not so confusing looking down compared to looking up.

I’ve been to the Denver Art Museum a couple of times now and still the main staircase is a little disorienting. The sides of the stairway are not perpendicular to the direction of the steps themselves; they angle to the right. So if you start on the right hand side of the stairway and go straight up the stairs, you are continually getting farther and farther away from the handrail. Or if you hang onto the handrail as you go up, you are climbing the steps at an angle. Strange, and the angles of the upper floor openings just add to the disorienting feeling.

Most of the time when I get stopped by cows on the highway, they’re being herded from one fenced pasture to another and feel out of place enough on the road that it’s easy to intimidate them with your vehicle’s bulk and get them to move out of the way. These open range cattle however, seemed to feel quite at home lounging on the road and were definitely not intimidated by vehicles–at least not by mine. I think I’d rolled within inches of them before they finally reluctantly sauntered out of the way. It made me glad I wasn’t driving through there at 65mph at night.
