Municipal Market
Grenada, Nicaragua
2013
The municipal market is where they separate the serious tourists from the lily-dippers. It takes some gumption (or at least it did for us) to dive right in and experience it up close; and once you’re in there, close is the only choice there is.]]>
This is something we were required to do one of our first days in Nicaragua in Managua. We were put in groups and given the equivalent of a day’s salary for the average worker (something like $2) and we had to use it to purchase enough food for our group’s dinner that night. A very eye-opening experience, and we learned beans and rice go a long way!
I’m glad I’m not limited to $2/day–man cannot live by gallo pinto alone!
