This is a shot of the installation piece at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts titled Totality by Katie Patterson. On the spinning ball are 10,000 eclipse photos printed on tiny mirrors that reflect light onto the surrounding walls; sort of a celestial disco ball effect.

What a rainy day! I drove over today to help hang my Rockscapes exhibit at the 4 Ravens Gallery which I’m happy to report is warm and dry inside, not to mention one of the nicest galleries I’ve exhibited in. The reception is tomorrow (Friday, June 1) from 5 to 8 p.m. Stop by if you’re in the area!

Part of the sculpture Hill and Valley by Steven Siegel at the Blackfoot Pathways sculpture park. Made from 30,000 pounds of newspapers, 28 lodgepole pine poles and 400 pounds of nails.

A woodland sculpture piece by Patrick Dougherty. It was constructed from 14 tons of willow and alder and is 35′ in diameter and 20′ tall. Statistics aside, it makes your imagination run wild.

The Launch of Telstar

It is amazing what random memories a particular photograph can evoke. I was barely 10 years old when the first Telstar satellite was launched in 1962. What does that have to do with an old teepee burner in Lincoln, MT? Not much except in the head of an fan of NASA and space exploration from the very beginning.
