POTD: Pelicans #1
Cleaning Up
Madison River, Montana
2015
When we moved to Montana in 1982 I don’t remember seeing any American White Pelicans like these around here, but over the years a fairly large colony of them has taken up residence on the Madison river near here (or else I finally started noticing them). I find them very intriguing and figure they must have some photo series potential much like my crow and raven images. As yet though, I’ve not really hit on any that I’m particularly enamored with–but I intend to keep trying!

We have a wildflower book that calls these hooded avens, but they’re more commonly know as prairie smoke, and officially as geum triflorum.

I didn’t realize the metaphor potential in this shot of flower petals dropping until I noticed the clock in the background when I was framing up the compostion in my viewfinder. I guess I could have gone the Steve Miller Band route rather than the soap opera route for the title: “Time keeps on slippin‘, slippin’, slippin’ into the future.”

The amazing thing is that this flag is flying at a city building. In Salt Lake City. In Utah. Bob was right, the times are in fact changing.

Do buffalo grow new horns? I hope so, this one really needs some replacements. They probably get worn down from all the tourists tossing they like to do when folks wander a bit too close. (No, I wasn’t that close. I was sitting safely in my car across the road trying out my new telephoto lens.)

This was yesterday across the street from the art show–at 11:30 a.m. Supposed to be hotter today. Ugh.
