A similar shadow composition to yesterday’s POTD, but with a whole different feel.

Seeking Protection
Rochester, Minnesota
2026

This is a detail from the sculpture “St. Francis and the Wolf” by Malvina Hoffman. It is a depiction of the story of St. Francis taming of a wolf that was terrorizing the people of Gubbio, Italy. See the full story here.

Rabbit Roost
Bozeman, Montana
2026

Except for a small number of cleanup chores left to do, we have completed vacating our mountain home of 43 years. Our pet graveyard near the house has been tended by this rabbit statue for several decades now. While we are leaving, the rabbit will will stay to keep the ghosts company.

Bare Tree #158
Woodbine Campground, Montana
2026

I can’t decide if this image looks more like a cornucopia of wood chips, or a log spilling its rotting guts.

Bare Tree #157 (Nature’s Ensō #2)
Woodbine Campground, Montana
2026

It’s a stretch to call these Ensō circles, as apparently concentric circles are rarely if ever drawn by traditional Japanese ensō painters. This is “because the process emphasizes mushin (no-mind) and spontaneity, repeating the stroke to layer nested circles contradicts the core practice.” Or so says the AI summary I read.

Die Laughing
Bozeman, Montana

To me, if not laughing, it at least looks like he died with a smile on his face.
