Back in the day, Ajo had a bustling train station. Today the depot building has been converted into the local visitor’s center. On the railing out front there is a metal cut-out of a train. In the late afternoon it’s shadow looks like a train crossing a high trestle.

The porch of my favorite rundown house in Ajo (of which there are many to choose from). It’s unclear whether or not anyone is actually living there. The porch lights are on continuously but there are broken windows etc. and no signs of current activity there. It’s a well designed stone house fixer-upper with a lot of possibilities but a lot of work needed as well. In fact it may be past the point of no return on it’s way to oblivion.
