Pretty exciting to see my photographs appear on such a fine album of music by such a well-respected musician, Rhiannon Giddens. I wouldn’t mind at all if some of her class rubbed off on me!

The CD has been out for a while now but the vinyl album was just released.

Channeling Mark Rothko

It would make sense to see this photo as a simple landscape in the same vein as the previous posts of scum on barrel floats But instead, when I looked at it I was reminded of Mark Rothko’s abstract paintings. I wonder if Rothko ever spent any quality time with scum.

This one is just for the fun of the name. If I was seeing a storm over Bighorn Canyon in yesterday’s photo of scum on a barrel float, then this one is obviously a lightning bolt from that same storm.

Looking across the canyon from our campsite on the rim of Bighorn Canyon, we could see across the canyon to the low rolling hills on the opposite rim, hills dotted with juniper trees here and there. In another direction we could see a dry-docked floating restroom waiting to be put into the canyon reservoir for the season. Looking closely at the water line scum patterns built up on the barrel floats on which the restroom was mounted, I found much the same scene that we observed looking out across the canyon.
