POTD: Trying to Remember

Trying to Remember
Willow Creek, Montana
2026

If you’ve ever had difficulties remembering things, like I have at times, this perhaps is the perfect metaphor for your brain–an aging old store front and an empty room titled the Hall of Recent Memories.

This is actually the store front for an art gallery in Willow Creek, Montana more formally know as Aunt Dofe’s Hall of Recent Memory. While it looks kaput, it is actually an ongoing gallery that only shows exhibits seasonally. I took this photo just last week, but I imagine the rooms are filled with art by now, as the first show of the season opens today, featuring the work of my photographer friend Lauren  Grabelle.

Speaking of memory, or remembering, today would have been my mother’s 100th birthday, and these days of course it is Junteenth as well.

  1. Wow! It seems like time flies increasingly faster every year. I wish it would slow down, so I could keep up! Maybe I would take time to comment on more of your posts. I just could not let this one pass without acknowledging your mention of Millie’s 100th birthday. 🙂

    1. Good to hear from you Connie, and thanks for thinking of my mom. I hope things are going great for everyone back in Kansas!

  2. I just heard a great phrase – sometimes instead of going down memory lane, we end up in a memory cul-de-sac! I love that idea

    1. Interesting metaphor, although I’m not sure how to interpret it. If you’re going down memory lane and end up in a cul-de-sac, do you end up headed back the way you came, or do you get stuck circling a particular set of memories?
