I don’t know much about what that equipment is for other than to guess it has something to do with the hydraulic system used to open the bottom doors on grain cars. Maybe the top doors too. There is similar equipment on each of the cars. Anyway taking off from what you said, what’s making the shadows isn’t the point of the photo. Rather it’s the abstract shadow pattern.
Without the titles, I would have no idea what was creating the shadows. Still don’t, but interesting abstracts nonetheless.
