Elk Fence
National Elk Refuge, Wyoming
2018
Bouncing around in my photo archives, I keep finding “unused” images from years ago that seem to deserve some attention. I assume this is a fence to constrain elk given it borders the National Elk Refuge, although most elk fences I’ve seen along highways are full field fence setups.
Love this minimalist image!! I don’t imagine it would keep elk in or out unless it’s really tall.
I think the fence is was pretty high but I still wonder if that wire spacing would be sufficient to keep at least smaller elk from squirming through, unless of course the fence was electrified.
Minimalist
Yes!
Elk and deer fencing must be 8-10′ tall to be effective. And, as you said, probably electrified . But we all know ain’t nuttin’ going to keep an elk herd out.. It is a neat pic though
Actually, I don’t know nothin’ about nothin’ as they say about elk fences. I do know our electric fence around our bird feeder has been shown (via a trail cam) to deal quite effectively with both big buck deer as well as at least black bears. We have no indication of a grizzly challenging the fence, and likewise elk who are on our property regularly but seem to stay clear of the house.
