Hanging Trees
Grant-Kohrs Ranch, Montana
2024

I don’t really know horse rigging equipment at all, but I’m pretty sure there are both single trees and double trees hanging from this fence.

  1. You are correct…in British English these are called “swingletrees” or “whippletrees”. See these Wiki pages for more than you wanted to know… 😉

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whippletree_(mechanism) (also applies to early computing machines)

This link has a very clear illustration.

P.S. Hanging trees could mean something entirely different if you lived in the southern US during the late 19th & early 20th centuries….
