An elderly couple picked these three mushrooms and just laid them out on a tree stump for some reason. I figured a squirrel would get to them eventually, but the mushroom hunter we talked to added them to his collection. They should make for a good meal as the largest one is maybe 8″ long.

We saw more mushrooms, toadstools, and other fungi over in the Tobacco Root’s than I think I’ve ever seen in Montana before. I guess that’s due to the summer’s weather pattern. We saw a mushroom picker going to town on the available harvest in the area but I don’t know nearly enough about telling the difference between edible mushrooms, non-edible mushrooms and toadstools to pick any to eat myself. Applying that same lack of knowledge to these posts, I’m just calling them fungi.
