POTD: Bare Tree #99

Bare Tree #99
Yachats, Oregon
2023

The texture pattern on this hunk of driftwood could pass for a 3D map of the chaotic swirls and currents in the ocean in places like that shown in June 24th’s POTD (minus the froth of course).

(This photo was supposed to be posted on June 25 but for some reason it did not make it live. So I’m posting it today instead, after having just discovered the problem. That’s the reason the Bare Tree sequence number #99 appears chronologically after eleven higher numbers–not that it matters or that you are actually keeping track!)

POTD: Super Blue

Super Blue
Bozeman, Montana
2023

Even though I wasn’t really prepared for it (e.g. we were in town and I’d left my tripod at our cabin), I felt obligated to photograph the super blue moon two days ago since it is the last one for some umpteen years to come. With a high ISO setting (hence a faster shutter speed) and a deck railing to lean the camera on I got a fairly sharp image even using my 600mm telephoto lens. Somehow though this image seems somewhat incomplete, like it needs a kid on a bicycle ferrying an extraterrestrial being in the air across the front of the moon. ET phone home! Actually I did something similar some years ago, inspired more by nursery rhymes than movies though:
