Walking along the road, we noticed several guardrail posts with partially dismantled and eaten pine cones. Why the local squirrels liked to haul pine cones up to those particular spots to eat is a mystery to me. Maybe they did it for the view.

Remember that old “trick” where you tweak some little kid’s nose, then make a fist with your thumb sticking out between your index and middle finger and show it to them claiming “I’ve got you’re nose”?

This oddly shaped log looked very much like a whale to me, and was about the size of an orca to boot.

Resting Place

We spent some time on the Oregon coast recently, including Yachats where we’ve been a number of times before. Every time we go there, I enjoy seeing what new interesting hunks of driftwood have accumulated on the rocks. We go infrequently enough that it’s rare to see the same log in two different visits. These two logs seem to have found a nice resting place safely above the tides. Of course it was the tides that placed them there in the first place so sooner or later they will be obliged to move on somewhere else I’m sure.
