Another architectural feature of downtown Nogales, which abuts the international border with Mexico. Immigration issues abound on our southern border, but that fact is still operative suggests that this kind of fencing effort is at best of dubious effect. What’s with the handrail going up the steep paved slope? Code requirements for a “sidewalk”?
The building codes around here say if there is a 3′ or greater drop off a porch or whatever, handrail or barrier is needed to prevent someone from accidentally stepping off the edge. This one is probably there to protect the Border Patrol?
