POTD: Pipe Insulation

This section of a dying organ pipe cactus looks very much like pipes I’ve seen wrapped in thick tubes of insulation. To complete the analogy, I note that the wooden cores of the skeleton arms of such cacti are hollow, like pipes.

    1. At least in the case of saguaro cacti, that pipe type construction is not the case. Saguaros have a rib-like skeleton. You can see part of one of them in the recent POTD post Spent Beauty #52.
