Bare Tree #18 Silver Falls State Park, Oregon 2018
Imagine what this tree with its roots embracing the old-growth tree stump on which it was growing look like once the stump completely rots away. In my mind I see a tree standing on its tip-toes.
I’ve seen nursery trees before but they were always downed trees, not stumps. In this particular forest there were quite a number of small trees perched on stumps with their roots exposed like this one. They look ready to walk away; perhaps that’s how Ents are formed.
Remarkable! There’s an “octopus” feeling about those roots….
