I was intrigued both by the horizontal orientation of this tree’s roots and by how they’d been exposed on what appeared to be a vertical wall. A closer looked revealed that the wall was actually a large fallen tree (a so-called nursery tree) that the live tree had taken root in years ago. The nursery tree had rotted away, leaving the younger tree’s roots exposed.
