  1. I like these moody, ruined versions of the wall better than the reconstructed sections. This one especially reminds me of imagined scenes from Whuthering Heights. 🙂 I’m glad you made the choice to visit these parts of the wall so we can see what it actually looks like after so many centuries.

    1. Restored relics serve a purpose I’m sure, but they’re not particularly enchanting, hence not conducive to artistic inspiration. There’s an interesting book, In Ruins by Christopher Woodward, that explores the history of our culture’s fascination with ruins and how it manifests itself in literature and art.
